Chapter 1090 Fierce Battle
Chapter 1090 Fierce Battle
There was more than one of those enormous, terrifying giant whale monsters.
Then came the second, the third... a total of five, each with a different shape. Some had several more pairs of rotten wing remains, some had exceptionally large and ferocious crystals on their bodies, and some had exceptionally dense tentacles.
However, equally enormous and terrifying Devouring Whales slowly emerged from the void gate one after another.
They resembled five moving nightmare islands, suspended beneath a shattered purple sky, surrounded by countless flying void creatures.
Arthropods with bat wings, floating eyeball-like tentacles... and below, the surging tide of water continues to rush forward.
A terrifying shadow loomed over the entire front line. The morale that had just been boosted by the successful repelling of the enemy was instantly crushed by the absolute oppressive feeling brought by this behemoth.
How can we kill this enormous monster?
Areris stood on the command platform of the Frostridge Watchtower, her crimson eyes fixed on the floating whale at the forefront of the sky.
The voice was cold and stern: "We must not let these things get close to the defensive line! A single charge from them could destroy a section of the city wall!"
"We must shoot them down from a greater distance before they enter the main gun's firing range!"
She instantly realized that conventional elemental attacks from floating towers and wall firepower would have limited effect on behemoths of this size.
Beside her, a Night Watch tactical mastermind immediately pointed to a floating tower behind the defensive line, its most menacing shape and covered in heavy armor.
"Consul! Use the 'Annihilation-class' death ray cannon! It's specifically designed to deal with large, high-energy targets!"
Without the slightest hesitation, Alyris declared: "Target, the Navigator Whale! Authorize launch! Charge to critical threshold!"
The floating tower that was named—the "Tower of Judgment"—immediately emitted a dull mechanical hum.
The tower's outermost thick armor plates unfold like flower petals, revealing an extremely complex alchemical matrix and energy conduits inside.
Countless metal blocks flashing with dangerous red light separated from the base of the tower, combined and deformed in front of the tower, and quickly formed a huge, pitch-black cannon barrel structure with a muzzle diameter of more than ten meters.
Countless energy arrays lit up in layers around the cannon barrel, emitting high-frequency, ear-piercing shrieks.
The space around the tower began to distort, as if the light was being swallowed up. A pure, pitch-black energy, representing "end" and "collapse," gathered and compressed wildly at the muzzle, emitting a destructive wave that even legendary powerhouses would feel terrified.
The dark, smoky energy emanated from the tower, adding to its aura of death.
"Power complete! Target locked! Launch!!"
"Buzz—Boom!!!"
A beam of light, indescribably black, instantly tore through the purple-stained space.
Wherever it passed, the light vanished completely, as if a straight trench had been carved out of space itself.
The death ray struck the head of the leading Devouring Whale with incredible speed, beyond the reach of human comprehension.
There were no earth-shattering explosions.
Only silent death.
The parts that were hit, whether writhing flesh, hard purple crystals, or twisted energy, all began to disintegrate, annihilate, and turn into the most primitive dust particles the moment they came into contact with the beam of light, just like ice and snow thrown into strong acid.
The collapse was incredibly fast; a huge hole, several meters in diameter, instantly pierced through the whale's head and continued to spread inwards and outwards.
The floating whale let out a final, piercing, soul-wrenching hum, and its massive body began to rapidly collapse and dissipate from the point of impact, like a sandcastle.
In the blink of an eye, the colossal beast that had brought such immense pressure vanished into a cloud of black smoke, radiating an ominous purple light, before the horrified eyes of all the soldiers. It disappeared into the cold wind.
The death ray, still carrying considerable force, grazed the side of the second floating whale.
The area that was rubbed also underwent a violent disintegration reaction, with large chunks of flesh and crystals peeling off.
Although not directly fatal, it caused enormous damage. The floating whale let out a roar, its massive body swaying violently in the air, its forward momentum abruptly halted.
"Well done!!!"
The tactical mastermind who made the suggestion pumped his fist hard, his excitement evident.
Witnessing this devastating blow firsthand had a tremendous morale-boosting effect.
This thing has only been tested a few times in the testing grounds, and its power is extremely exaggerated. It has never been actually used to strike such an exaggerated creature.
"They've taken them down!!"
Long live the Night's Watch!
"We can do it!!"
Deafening cheers erupted from all parts of the defensive line!
As the soldiers witnessed the colossal beast, which resembled a demon god, being annihilated in a single blow, the heavy weight of fear in their hearts seemed to shatter instantly.
Courage and hope were rekindled like flames.
Yes, we have such weapons.
We have the ability to fight these monsters.
The World League is not without a chance of winning.
This thought resonated deep within them, giving them boundless courage.
However, the cheers were quickly silenced by the commanders' stern shouts.
Areris showed no sign of relaxation as she stared intently at the remaining four giant whales and the endless flying monsters surrounding them, as well as the ground tides below that were still struggling to move forward in the elemental inferno.
Void creatures have no fear, no morale; the death of their companions means nothing to them, only fueling their more ferocious desire to attack.
The Annihilation Cannon is incredibly powerful, but it takes time to recharge. The real test has only just begun.
Her icy voice resounded throughout the defensive line via an amplification array.
"Annihilation Cannon Cooldown and Recharge! All firepower units, target—remaining whales and aerial clusters! Open fire at will!"
"Take them down! Ground forces, maintain the suppression, don't let the Zerg swarm get close to the walls! For Aegir! For our future!!"
"For Aegella!!"
A thunderous battle cry responded to her, and the steel defenses once again spewed out deadly tongues of fire to meet the seemingly endless purple apocalyptic tidal wave.
Cana and Poppot are suspended high in the air.
Below, the Wailing Wall defenses were spewing destructive flames, clashing violently with the surging purple tide.
The oppressive feeling brought by the Devouring Whale had not yet dissipated, and Alyris's commands and the roar of the "Annihilation-class" death ray cannon had just given the defense line a brief respite.
Just then, Kana's silver-gray eyes twitched slightly, catching an unusual trajectory.
A floating tower located in the middle of the defensive line—not the "Tower of Judgment" that had just fired the Annihilation Cannon—suddenly shuddered on a special launch platform on its flank.
An alchemical cannonball, entirely black with unstable silver patterns flowing across its surface, was thrown as if by an invisible hand, instantly tearing through the air.
With a speed far exceeding that of conventional artillery shells, it silently shot towards another floating whale in the air that was spewing energy and suppressing the defense line below.
Popper's round, mouse-like ears perked up excitedly, her white fur fluttering in the surging energy. She clapped her small hands together, almost jumping up: "Look! Kana! Look at that!"
Cana's gaze followed the black cannonball.
The shell hit the middle of the giant whale's massive body with pinpoint accuracy.
There was no earth-shattering explosion or fire, and no spread of energy shock.
The shell shattered silently like fragile glass upon contact, and its internal core—an extremely unstable spatial singularity—was instantly activated.
Om-!
A chilling, low hum, as if space itself were groaning in pain.
Centered on the point of impact, a deep, pitch-black "hole" that seemed capable of swallowing all light suddenly appeared.
This hole is not static; rather, it is being pulled inward and collapsed by a terrifying gravitational force.
That kilometer-long Devouring Floating Whale, with its enormous body covered in writhing tumors and huge amethyst crystals, appeared so fragile in the face of this irresistible spatial power.
It emitted a shrill, distorted buzzing sound, its massive body being gripped and kneaded as if by an invisible giant hand, and then dragged unstoppably toward the ever-shrinking black singularity.
It only took two or three seconds.
That colossal beast, along with the flying void creatures within a radius of tens of meters around it, was as if it had been thrown into an invisible crusher, completely swallowed, compressed, and annihilated by the ever-shrinking black hole.
Finally, when the black hole shrank to its limit, resembling a miniature black star, it suddenly collapsed and dissipated.
"Boom!"
A soft, yet seemingly resonant, crisp sound that seemed to echo deep within the soul.
The space around the point of collapse was like glass struck by a heavy hammer, instantly covered with a fine, spiderweb-like network of spatial cracks that shimmered with a faint purple light.
These cracks existed briefly before slowly healing under the self-repairing power of the Aegira World Laws, leaving behind only brief ripples of energy.
"Did you see that, Kana!"
Popper turned around excitedly, his round eyes sparkling with pride, his small nose twitching slightly. "That's my design! The 'Space Collapse Node Projector'! How about that? Isn't it amazing? It sent it straight into the spatial turbulence!"
Cana withdrew his gaze from the spatial rift that was being mended, a hint of approval in his deep eyes, and nodded slightly.
"It utilizes the singularity effect of spatial collapse to exile the target along with the surrounding space. A very ingenious application of space, Popper."
"That's right!"
Popper shook his head smugly, his white fur fluttering in the energy wind.
"It's about creating an extremely unstable point of spatial collapse! But unfortunately..."
Her excitement subsided slightly, tinged with a hint of regret.
"A space can only withstand this level of 'wound' a limited number of times in a short period of time."
"According to previous space stability models, this attack can only be used a maximum of three times in a row. The fourth time may trigger an uncontrollable chain reaction of space collapse."
"It might even tear open permanent rifts leading to the depths of the void or unknown planes, which would be more troublesome than these behemoths themselves."
Upon hearing this, Kana turned his gaze back to the sky, which was riddled with purple cracks like shattered glass, and calmly said, "That was the previous model data. Now..."
He raised his hand and pointed to the enormous void gate in the sky, and the countless small cracks around it, opening and closing like sores.
“Look at the sky, Poppot.”
"The complete erosion of the void has already made the spatial structure here extremely fragile, like rotten wood covered with cracks."
"The 'chain collapse of space' that we were worried about before is already underway due to the frantic tearing of the void will."
"Even if you use this kind of collapse bomb six or seven more times, the spatial damage it causes will only add a few more cracks to this already riddled 'rotten wood'."
"It can no longer get any 'worse,' nor can it provide any more 'help' to the invasion of the void. Spatial stability... has long since lost its meaning here."
Poppot followed Kana's finger and looked at the enormous void gate that resembled a wound in the world and the countless tiny cracks. His round ears drooped subconsciously for a moment, then perked up again, a look of understanding and relief flashing in his eyes.
Her understanding of the underlying rules of the world and the characteristics of void erosion is indeed far less profound than that of Kana, who holds the reins of world power.
She nodded immediately: "Understood! Then I'll adjust the battle plan right away, so that each projection platform no longer needs to worry about the number of attacks. As long as the target is locked, just smash it hard!"
Her mental link instantly connected to the Night's Watch's command network, and new instructions were swiftly issued.
In the lower defensive line, several floating towers equipped with "Space Collapse Node Projectors" once again emitted a dangerous, unstable silver light from their cannon muzzles.
Popper's gaze returned to the battlefield, looking at the remaining few floating whales and the ground troops still surging like a tide below, his tone tinged with seriousness.
"However, these behemoths are truly formidable weapons for conquering cities and seizing strongholds. Their physical impact and energy breath are terrifying enough, but what's more troublesome is that their very existence can greatly inspire and command lower-level void creatures."
"This is only the early stages of the apocalypse, and we already have 'battering rams' of this caliber appearing..."
Her small body seemed to shrink slightly in the cold wind. "I can't even imagine what other terrifying monsters will crawl out as the engulfing package goes deeper..."
She paused, her voice tinged with helplessness: "Moreover, each of these guys' energy levels is just above the 'legendary' threshold, possessing the rule resistance unique to legendary creatures."
"Conventional energy attacks and physical strikes are greatly reduced in effectiveness. Do you think you can overwhelm them with a human wave tactic using low-level soldiers?"
"That's just wishful thinking. Their skin and energy field are immune to most attacks."
Kana nodded silently, his gaze sharp as a knife: "They are merely the vanguard. The true 'legends' of the void, those individuals possessing intelligence and capable of manipulating even more terrifying void laws, have yet to appear."
Even as the two gods were exchanging words, the battle below never ceased.
On the city walls, arrows, spells, alchemical bullets, and cannonballs wove together a storm of deathly metal and energy, lashing wildly across the icy plains.
One after another, swarms of void worms were torn apart, evaporated, frozen, and blown away. The purple energy mist that filled the air grew thicker and thicker, as if shrouding the entire battlefield in an ominous veil.
The "Light of Descent" construct in the sky rotated slightly, emitting a soft yet resilient silvery glow of order, forming an invisible barrier that firmly kept the purple aura containing spiritual pollution and corrosiveness outside the defensive line, protecting the minds of the soldiers.
However, the mental stress is not completely eliminated.
A human shield guard standing close to the crenellation had his hands pressed tightly against the edge of the massive tower shield, his knuckles turning white from the force.
Looking at the seemingly endless purple waves surging wildly across the distant ice plains, treading on the corpses and scorched marks of their own kind, he couldn't help but complain to his dwarf musketeer companion beside him.
"Damn, seeing so many... my ears are starting to ring!"
He shook his head violently, as if trying to dispel the non-existent noise. "If they get any closer, that wailing will blow my head off!"
The dwarf Bronn Stonefist next to him spat and replied in a gruff voice, "Who says otherwise! My temples are throbbing right now, just like when that thing howled at close range by the rift back then."
"This is called phantom pain!"
He patted his heavy helmet hard. "But they want to rush over and gnaw on my shield?"
"Hehe, let's ask the mages and cannons behind us if they agree! It's not our turn to go in for hand-to-hand combat yet!"
As if to confirm the dwarves' words, and as if to break the Night's Watch's advantage in ranged firepower, the massive void portal above the silent bay surged violently once more. (End of Chapter)
