Chapter 177: One Specialist And A Full Team Of Summoners
Chapter 177: One Specialist And A Full Team Of Summoners
Luke picked up the giant Tribute Coin as Frieda vanished into motes of light, reappearing outside in front of the Elementalist stands. Phiodor looked outraged. Elementalist-D was the first team to be completely out of the competition.
Meanwhile, inside the battlefield, Luke was just about to turn and hand the coin to Cassandra when a violet energy coiled around his wrist.
A hex.
His arm went numb, causing the coin to slip and fall from his fingers.
Amira stepped out from behind a stone formation, her hands glowing with brilliant violet light. Behind her, Soren’s healing magic shimmered, keeping everyone at peak condition. And Jon-Mark, who had already imprinted six detection runes around the perimeter, stepped up behind Soren.
With those detection runes, a web of awareness was created which would make ambush impossible. Enchanter-D’s strategy so far was proving ingenious.
"Sorry," Amira said, not sounding sorry at all. "But we’ve been patient long enough."
She flicked her wrist.
The hex on Luke’s arm tightened, spreading numbness up to his shoulder. He couldn’t summon. Couldn’t even move his hands.
"Min Tu!" he shouted.
Min Tu ran towards him. Calling her fourth Skeleton Summon, Goth, an Assassin mixed with a Shadow Mage and an Arcanist.
A speed rune appeared on Soren’s boots. The healer blurred, intercepting Goth’s dagger with a reinforced staff that hadn’t been there a second ago.
A defensive rune appeared on Amira’s chest. When Min Tu attacked her, her own twin daggers clanged against it harmlessly.
"TRIPLE MAGIC OUTPUT!" the announcer yelled. "JON-MARK HAS AMPLIFIED AMIRA AND SOREN! THE ENCHANTERS ARE A FORTRESS!"
Amira blasted Min Tu away with an explosive hex, then she raised both hands.
Violet energy gathered between her palms, she conjured Grace to form a powerful, concentrated energy beam that was aimed right at Luke.
He couldn’t dodge. His arm was still numb. But Goth, being an Arcanist as well, came to the rescue.
It escaped its battle with Soren and pushed out a release hex. The next struck Luke quickly enough to free him in time. But that beam was still going to hit them.
Just then, Cassandra’s Verdant Wolf Spirit threw itself between Luke and the beam. The violet energy struck the spirit’s chest—but the spirit absorbed it.
Cassandra gasped, sweat dripping down her face. "Luke... now..."
The numbness in Luke’s arm faded, and when he could feel his veins pumping blood again, a smile broke on his face.
Devil’s Fangs appeared in both hands, and he immediately exploded forward to deal with Amira. He closed the distance to her in three heartbeats, ducking under Soren’s staff swipe, spinning past Jon-Mark’s rune trap.
Amira’s eyes widened.
Luke’s daggers crossed at her throat.
"I yield!"
Luke stopped suddenly, confused. "Yield?" he asked. "Is that a thing?"
She stared at him for a long moment. Then she smiled. "Jon-Mark, now."
Jon-Mark slammed his palm against the ground.
A massive rune circle exploded beneath Luke’s feet, a trap he’d been drawing this entire time. Binding runes. Immobilization runes. Elimination runes.
Luke tried to jump, but the runes were already crawling up his legs.
"NO!" Cassandra screamed.
Min Tu’s Skeleton lunged, but Soren intercepted it, his staff hitting it right in the ribcage and sending it flying through the battlefield.
Luke was trapped.
Amira stepped back, picked up the giant Tribute Coin, and nodded to her team.
"Let’s move."
The Enchanters started toward their green-marked clan land.
The crowd was on its feet.
"THE ENCHANTERS HAVE STOLEN THE COIN!" the announcer screamed. "CAN ANYONE STOP THEM?!"
Slash!
Slash!
Amira turned around to see two of her two teammates had suddenly disappeared into blue light. Her eyes widened.
Standing behind her, a shining silver sword with a black edge by his side, was Renan Falconhart.
The Heavenly Knight was back.
...
Amira turned fully to face him. Renan looked over his shoulder at her, their eyes locked.
Amira had a look of uncertainty in her face and her breath seemed to slow a little. "Ren..."
Renan smiled warmly, his eyes softening. "I don’t want to fight you, Amira."
Amira gazed at him as he slowly pivoted to be face to face with her.
"I do."
Amira and Renan’s eyes widened. Suddenly, out of nowhere, Min Tu had appeared behind Amira, and her dagger was a hair’s breath close to her neck, going for the kill.
Amira used a warping hex and vanished several feet to the right. But Min Tu just landed agilely and attacked again, swinging her purple daggers at the Arcanist.
Renan narrowed his eyes, looking at the corner because he knew what was coming. He immediately dodged, moving his shoulder as a spear burning with blue flames struck the ground in front of him.
Renan turned around and found Luke standing behind him. With a raise of his hand, the spear uprooted from the earth and returned to Luke’s grasp.
Both of them glared at each other.
"SUMMONER-D IS THE ONLY CLASS GROUP WITH ALL TEAM MEMBERS STILL PRESENT!" the announcer declared. "IT’S DOWN TO ONE SPECIALIST, ONE ENCHAN— OHHH!!!!!"
Min Tu’s dagger finally connected with Amira’s neck and the Enchanter vanished into light spores.
"IT’S DOWN TO ONE SPECIALIST AND A FULL TEAM OF SUMMONERS! UNBELIEVABLE!"
Renan looked away from where Amira had been and then back at Luke.
The Arsenal spun the Soul Searching Spear till it transformed into Sunpiercer, his legendary sword. He angled it in front of him, posed for a battle.
"Are we going to do this or not?"
Renan tilted his head.
...
What followed was chaos.
Pure destruction.
Renan was the first to attack. His silver blade swept across the battlefield, a crescent of dark energy tearing through the ground toward Luke. Luke threw himself sideways, dismissing his sword mid-air and summoning the Gilded Aegis.
The shield caught the edge of the crescent and held, golden light flaring as the dark energy dissipated.
"Min Tu! Flank Him!" Luke shouted.
Min Tu and Goth responded instantly. Goth charged from the left, cleaver crackling with shadow energy. Min Tu from the right, twin daggers howling with fury.
Renan didn’t even look at them. He spun, his sword tracing a full circle, a ring of silver energy that exploded outward. Goth caught it full in the chest and vanished instantly.
Min Tu gasped, clutching her head and falling over. But she was still in the fight.
Her Skeletons however were all gone now..
Cassandra thrust her hand forward. "Spirit Swarm!"
Her Verdant Wolf Spirit split—into three, into five, into eight smaller spirits that swarmed Renan like angry hornets. They clawed at his face, his arms, his sword hand.
Renan slashed the sword just once and a holy light, so bright and hot, flashed with an intense power.
The spirits dissolved instantly. But worse, Cassandra was too close to the light with no shield to protect her. She screamed as the wave hit her, and vanished in a flash of light, eliminated.
Cassandra was gone.
Min Tu stumbled backward, shielding her eyes. She had just one Skeleton Soldier left, but Renan didn’t give her the chance to use it.
When she looked up into heaven, its Knight was coming down.
