Chapter 57 The Accuser
Chapter 57 The Accuser
"Your Highness, how far along is the Princess Consort's pregnancy?"
Upon hearing the question from Chief Herald Jonas Farr, Aure raised her head.
"Seven or eight months," Aure calculated. "She conceived before I went to war."
"Oh, really? Then it will be soon," Jonas closed the book. "His Majesty will be overjoyed to have a grandson, and he will surely forgive your mistakes immediately."
Aure shook her head: "It's not necessarily a boy yet."
"Definitely, Your Highness. At least I will pray to God that, and that the child will be healthy, kind, and intelligent."
Jonas said,
"Oh, Your Highness, please summon me when the Princess is in labor. As you know, heralds study a wide range of subjects. My medical skills may not be as good as the imperial physicians, but if I can be of any help, it would be my honor!"
"I remember, Jonas, I will remember your loyalty," Aurelia nodded.
"It's not just loyalty, Your Highness. I also have my own selfish motives. You should know that it is widely rumored in the court that I am the youngest Herald in the history of the Royal Herald Academy."
"But that is indeed the case."
"That's right, but that also means I will shoulder this responsibility for longer than any previous emblem master. I am assisting your father, and I will assist you in the future. If the opportunity arises, I will also assist your children..."
At this point, Jonas seemed to realize she had misspoke and quickly explained,
"Oh! Of course, I hope Your Highness lives to be a hundred years old, but I was just using an analogy. To witness the birth of my master would be a truly sacred thing for me!"
If it were Mitchell Sinclair, he might have been furious at those words.
But the prince in the current role is played by Aurélie Capello.
To perfectly portray her role, Aurée might deliberately get angry, but there seems to be no need for that at this moment.
She said, "I understand your feelings, Jonas, I promise you."
"Thank you for your grace, Your Highness," Jonas bowed his head deeply.
Aurée made Jonas look up, and then began to gather information:
"My father has kept me locked up for four months, during which time he has almost never allowed me to see anyone."
"This is not called a ban, Your Highness. His Majesty has cut off your social interactions and made you come to me every day in order to correct the shortcomings you exposed in this battle and to further cultivate your talents."
"But even my father himself refuses to see me."
Aurée said in a complaining tone,
"For the past four months, besides you and my wife, the only faces I've seen are the soldiers who escorted and guarded me. Jonas, how much longer will this continue?"
"It won't be long before His Majesty feels you have grown and will grant you freedom of movement."
Jonas said,
"Moreover, as I just said, at the latest, it will only last until the princess gives birth."
With someone constantly watching her, Aure had no room to devise a revenge plan.
But since Jonas said so, Aure doesn't intend to act blindly.
Her husband had been dead for four years, and although her desire for revenge was urgent, she didn't mind waiting a month or two.
Just then, someone pushed the door open.
The two turned around, and Aure immediately recognized the other person.
That was Claude's second son, Mitchell's younger brother, Prince Gene Sinclair.
Similarly, she became Aurelia's next assassination target.
Jonas rushed forward to greet him: "Oh! Your Highness Gene! Welcome!"
"Lord Jonas," Gene returned the greeting politely and gently, "Are you alright?"
Gene is polite and humble. Compared to Mitchell, no one would ever imagine that the two are brothers!
"Thank you for your kind words, Your Highness. Please come in," Jonas said, gesturing for Gene to enter. "Your Highness Gene, what brings you here?"
"Ah, it's the wind of longing," Gene said, looking at Aurelia. "I miss my brother, so I've come here to see him."
"Could it be that you also cannot see His Highness Mitchell?" Jonas asked.
“That’s right. Father’s orders are very strict. I’ve tried to see my brother several times, but I’ve been stopped outside his palace,” Gene shrugged. “I only managed to see him when my brother was having lessons with you, under the pretext of looking for you.”
"It must have been hard on you, Your Highness Gene," Jonas glanced at Aurelia, "Well then, you two princes, please continue your conversation, I'll make you some tea."
Jonas bowed, turned and walked away, while Gene stood next to Aurelia, arms outstretched:
"Long time no see, Brother Wang!"
Seeing this, Aurelia could only step forward and embrace him.
From Mitchell's account, it seems he was somewhat jealous of his younger brother. Is their relationship really that good?
Or is this a scene that Gene deliberately designed to win Cloud's favor?
The two sat down, and Aurel asked in confusion:
"You've gone to all this trouble to come see me, what brings you here?"
Gene shook his head: "Brother, it's nothing special, I just miss you a little."
Aurelia couldn't quite figure out Gene in front of her.
According to Mitchell and Jonas, Gene seems to be very intelligent.
When speaking to her, Aurelia must be especially careful.
"So, you've just come to catch up with me?"
"Yes, although most of the time our interactions are unpleasant, we are still brothers, and my feelings for you are sincere and strong."
Hearing these words, Aure felt a little nauseous and disgusted.
Gene seemed oblivious to Aurelia's reaction and continued speaking to himself:
"Brother Wang, you've always been stronger than me since childhood, and you've always been proud of it. When I was little, a pony kicked me, and you laughed at me. Then, right in front of me, you conquered the pony. Although I held a grudge against you for a long time, now that I think about it, it was part of the strong bond between us. Brother Wang, do you remember that?"
After hearing this, Auréli thought it really did sound like something Mitchell would do.
So he nodded and said, "I remember."
"Really? That's great," Gene smiled. "So, who are you?"
Aurelia paused for a moment, but quickly regained her composure and said in Mitchell's tone:
"Gene, what did you say?"
"Mitchell is not a meticulous person and is extremely arrogant, but he has always been protective of me. What I told you did happen, but there were some differences. Mitchell did not laugh at me, but angrily killed the pony that kicked me. If you really are Mitchell, you cannot be so calm when you hear that I was bullied."
Upon hearing these accusations, Aure's heart pounded wildly.
But she knew that she absolutely could not panic right now:
"Perhaps I'm mistaken. Besides, people change. Gene, I'm different now than I was then, which is why I'm using my current standards to judge my actions back then."
"But old habits die hard."
At this point, Gene exhaled a heavy breath through his nose, then smiled slightly and continued,
"You should understand that I was testing you just now, right?"
That's true...
Aure looked coldly at the young man in front of her, who was only seventeen or eighteen years old, and didn't know how to answer for a moment.
"Since I'm testing you, it means I've suspected you for a while now. Hey, I don't care who you are, you've already given yourself away without anyone noticing!"
